Evergreen's CES to call at Piraeus
22/09/2011 Evergreen's new Mediterranean port of call on its China-Europe service (CES) is to be Piraeus, instead of Taranto, to reduce transit times on the Far East-East Mediterranean trade.
The CES is adding a westbound call at Jeddah to its port rotation of: Rotterdam, Hamburg, Thamesport, Piraeus, Colombo, Tanjung Pelepas, Kaohsiung, Ningbo, Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Colombo, Jeddah, Piraeus, and back to Rotterdam.
The service is operated using 10 x 6,300-7,000-TEU ships, with CMA CGM and NYK co-loading on the service.
In a related development, the eastern Mediterranean and Adriatic feeders will add a call at Piraeus, to be served as a second hub in addition to Taranto on a number of Evergreen and Italia Marittima feeder services, reports Alphaliner.
They are: the Turkey and Levant feeder service (TRL), the Adriatic-Levant service (ADL1) and Adriatic-Levant service (ADL2), and Piraeus replaces Taranto on the carrier's Tunisia feeder service (NAF).
Taranto will continue to be served with the Far East-Mediterranean service (FEM) and it will continue to act as a hub for the Adriatic Sea region, served by the ADL1 and ADL2 as well as by common feeders, the report said.
